Red Rump Grass Parrakeets

I have a Red Rump grass Parrakeet with a large growth on the side of his face.  Any suggestions of a food supplement that will help will be appreciated. We feed him Lafebers pellets, apples, carrots, and pasta and grit.  But recently I have removed the grit to see if that helps.  Vet says the bird will bleed out if an attempt is made to remove the growth.  Actually my main inquiry is does anybody knows of some one who has non mutant red rump parrakeets.?  No mutants, that shortens the life span and they are not nearly as pretty as the pure red rumps are.

I don't know of any breeders in the US who are breeding red rumps with natural wild colorings; but I do have some tips that may help your afflicted bird.  Any supplement that will raise his immunity to infections and bacteria will help greatly.  Removing things from the birds cage that have irritating or sharp edges will reduce chance of puncturing the growth (if you haven't removed them already...); if the growth is affecting his/her ability to fly, a shorter and wider cage may improve the quality of life.  If I find any information on growths and what not on small birds, I will be sure to send it your way.  Good luck.   C. Thank you for your response. We separated him from his mate to ensure she does not injure him, because she was starting to show some agression.  I have removed all gravel from his diet.  We are going to try some natural oils to see if they have an effect.  I know my son-in-law had a bad wart type growth on his feet that looked very similar to what is on the red rump and we cured that with clove.  So we might start with some very, very diluted clove applied with a qtip to see if that affects it.  It is sad that such a beutiful bird in its natural state has been mutated by breeders.  They live so much longer if not inbred for color.  We have had no luck over the years getting them to breed.  He is a lousy father.
