No one ever learned forest management in a classroom. The only way to learn forest management is to live full time in a forest. Forget the nonsense you have been fed and get in there with the subject that you have yet to study in sufficient detail.
When you see "circle scars" on trees about three feet from the ground, and can see a ceramic spike, that some witless tree hugger planted with a porta-power, in an effort to prevent its processing once cut.
Then you will see that tree die within two years and it will then become a haven for termites, that will then take out a full acre of virgin trees. Then the whole forest will become infested, and then to get rid of the termites, we will have to clear cut six or seven acres!
Fortunately, it is never difficult to detect the ceramic spikes at the sawmill that tree huggers push into the trees, but that was the actual reason we had to clear cut as the last ditch effort to save a whole 2,000 acre forest.
