Just when you think it can't get any worse, surprise! It does.

I suggle with this constantly. Profanity is rage become verbal. The victory I have had recently is to go on a media fast. Remove from the home a r rated matierial, stop watching tv. Talk with my family about what is bothering me in a non treatening way. Don't blame others around me don't say anting negative. It's a hard pill to swallow, but it is the right thing to do.

My name is Max Stout.

Ask for me by name.  Cool

Mark's response is good advice. The heart (mind) can be a treacherous thing. What you put into it can have distressing results. Some will tell you it's a "garbage in garbage out" phenomenon, like computers, except we have the additional emotional response that computers will never have.  Some find solace in spirituality and religion finding calm and rest through meditations and prayer. A tuning in rather than a tuning out. Professional help is always an option and to the degree which you feel such a need, don't deny it. Seek it and follow through.

Regards from Max

What do you surround yourself with? I remember  watching a movie recently and felt I wouldn't want to hear that  type of language all the time because it would affect my language which at times already isn't good. If you watch alot of porn, etc. believe me it will affect your thoughts; mind. I suggest pay attention to what you're surrounding yourself with. I guarantee it makes a difference. Theres also a group called sex and love addicts annonymous they're a group of compassionate people who you could share just about anything with; you could check with local hospitals or on line to find out where meetings are held. I went off and on for a year until I learned to stop repeating behavior which wasn't productive/smart.

Thanks for the answer.  I have a history of trauma.  But when it ended I thought it was over.  I did not realize it would have repercussions.  Anyway, it is true that what you enter into your mind is what will also register and come out. Thanks

I find it frustrating myself to have only thoughts of milk and honey in my modern world today where everything imaginable seems to trump. I believe profanity can be caused by a myriad of circumstances, rage, hate, love, sorrow, cute, ego -- it would take all day to catagorize the whole mess of what causes foul language. I would think to not take the world on my shoulders. The world is a big place. It got here without my help and it will go without my help.  I find much to cuss about in my merry-go-round modern world today.  Profane words harbor in my conscience, but i keep them well bridled -- for the simple reason it's not nice singing in any language. Aside from that, it's still a beautiful world. It may not be pleasent at times, but i won't add to the harlequin buffoonery today by cussing it out -- i damn think so! Bing!

Do you mean profane thoughts or language? And by thoughts, do you mean sex-related, or cursing? It is not clear to me.

 Be Thankful

 Speak softly

 Let your love shine...

You fill your mind with good words.  You read only good books.  Listen only to good music, good conversations.  This takes effort on your part. But it works.

The more you wean yourself and your heart and mind away from the profane the more it will offend you when you see/hear it.

Try it for only a little while and notice, when you have not used profanity or listened to it how harsh it sounds to your "new" ear.

I am being very serious here.  One month of watching gentle movies, listening to quiet music and filling your head with wholesome thoughts and you will begin to notice a big difference and you will find that you hesitate before you swear.  Where in the past you just blurted it all out.  Best of Everything to You...NJoy
