POMEGRANATE GROWING PROBLEM: I have three pomegranate bushes planted three years ago. The first two years the bushes blossomed and began fruiting. When the fruit was about marble-sized they fell off. THe third year they did not blossom at all. I am planted in full sun in well drained soil, and grow pecans and blueberries in the area. My search for growing problems listed both over watering and over fertilizing as the likely culprit. I therefore stopped fertilizing and watering altogether. This seemed to make no difference. Also, at times some of the mature shoots die for no apparent reason. Otherwise they appear to be healty bushes. I might add that over a century ago this area was a productive fruit-growing area, until the San Jose scale put the growers out of business. This does not appear to be the problem at the present as I produce every fruit, nut, and berry imaginable, with no apparent diseases or growing problems. Would appreciate any input re my problem.
