american civil liberties union-- What can I do if my son's civil rights were violated when he attended prom last weekend? Him and 5 friends were questioned by the principal & assistant principal as to whether they had been drinking? My son advised he had 1 beer at the racetrack 7 hours earlier while with his parents and he along with his friends were made to leave prom. My son and the others requested a breathilizer test and were refused. The kids were suspended for 3 days and today were told they have to go to alternative school for the next 30 days with gangs, druggies and child molesters. The principal's answer as to why they weren't given breathilizer tests is because she didn't want to get them in trouble. She was just going on hearsay from another teacher that said they all smelled like alcohol. Isn't that a violation of his civil rights? Both city cops & school cops were at prom and got frustrated because the kids asked why they were being treated like this and were told to cooperate or they were going to jail and would get the crap beat out of them. What does she mean she didn't want them to get into trouble?? This was a harsh punishment for these seniors who are suppose to graduate if they let them on June 5,2009. Why were my son's civil rights violated along with his friends as they are 18 years old & are being punished because of false accusations by the principal? Please help me in Lavernia,Texas as I am desperate. My son is an "A" student involved in sports all his life & never been in trouble and doesn't deserve this . Do I need a civil rights attorney to help me or what is the law? Could the american civil liberties union help me? I am a member of the Communication Workers of America union and I hope someone can help me soon!!
