You are the captain of a small whale-watching ship in the North Atlantic Ocean. Your ship has just been struck by a huge wave, and has capsized, throwing you, your three-member crew, and your fifteen passengers into the icy water. The ship sinks quickly, but you see an inflatable lifeboat floating in the water. You swim to the lifeboat and activate the inflation mechanism. Unfortunately the lifeboat will hold only ten people. As the other eighteen people in the water swim toward the lifeboat, you realize that if they all come aboard, the lifeboat will sink and everyone will drown. Will you give up your seat in the lifeboat? How will you decide whom to let come aboard the lifeboat?
