Dear Sir/Madam, I have been searching the internet in hope to find assistance with my father's condition and I came across your web site. I have no medical background and this request is sent to purely to seek guidance and advice. My father was diagnosed with cancer early in 2007 and in June 07 he had an operation to remove a tumour which we were told was the size of fist from his sinus area, this was then followed by a course of radio therapy, he was later told that the cancer had not been completely removed and in Oct 07 his left eye and some surrounding bone in his skull was removed, this was followed by a further course of radio therapy. All appeared to be well until late Oct 08 when his sight in his right eye deteriorated. On 14th Nov 08 he was admitted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and was placed on a steroid drip for 3 days. The steroids did not appear to help and he has been under going hyperbaric treatment since that time to establish if this would help stop the deterioration, unfortunately this has not helped and on 2nd Dec he was told that the treatment had not been successful and that he would have to be registered blind - basically that there was no more that the hospital could do! To date the doctors have not been clear about what has caused the rapid deterioration in his sight, they believe that it may be damage to the optic nerve from the radio therapy treatment last year but we do not have a definitive answer. As you can imagine total loss of his sight is devastating to him and the family and we are desperate to find out if anyone can help? I appreciate that you may receive many such requests by any guidance or advice that you could give at this time would be greatly appreciated. Yours in anticipation Wendy.
