I have an excellent education and a bit of experience (research) in the IT/Software development area. I've recently moved to a new country. Though English is widely used, many job offers require fluency in the local language. I've spent months applying for jobs, winning an interview only twice.
Currently, I have an opportunity to start working at an English speaking preschool as a helper. I love kids, the environment is awesome, and I am very motivated. However, there are two significant cons: (1) The salary is half of what I would receive working as a software developer, and (2) Unless I significantly change my future career goals, this job only takes me backwords. I've spent years at university, been a good student, and it would be a waste if I start at the age of almost 30 as a preschool assistant.
Still, I really want to start working, not only for finansial reasons, but also for doing something more useful than sending applications. I am already babysitting occasionally, and this job would be more stable.
My question is: should I sign the contract? How will that affect my future career? Anything better I could do instead? I am really frustrated with the job search, and do not want to continue with the same anymore.
