Need to make & hang a cheap door!

I need to make a door for my kitchen entry to keep the little ones OUT! I have to do it super cheap so I was thinking plywood is the most affordable & maybe add some paint & slim molding as accent. Do you have any other thrifty ideas you can give me, I have to be able to lock it or their for their safety. 80in tall x 32 wide. Thanks,

-Maria

Have you thought of going to a salvage store? (Look in the yellow pages) They would probably have a lot of old/cheap doors to choose from.

Hi Anna!

Do you have any "Re-Use" centers or architectural salvage warehouses near you?  They sell used building materials and usually have used doors in all sizes for cheap-cheap-cheap, many times with the frame attached!.  Or, you could try using those adjustable kid/pet gates that fit in the doorway and just stack them if you need height.  You could maybe find them used too at a resale shop specializing in childrens clothing and furnishings (the stores here in Minnesota are called "Once Upon A Child").    Let me know how it goes, okay?     LB12star
