Need to extend the inactivity timeout period for my HP laptop from 30-45 seconds

My HP laptop returns to the login page and requires password re-entry in order to return to the page I was viewing. this occurs after 30 - 45 seconds of inactivity. My O/S is Windows Vista Home Premium edition.

HP had no answer, they thought it had to do with the screen saver. Is there a simple way to extend this timeout nuisance.
