Amber, When you applied for ssi, the person taking your application was supposed to send an application to the Department of Human Services for you, so you could get help while waiting to see if you would be approved for ssi. Since you worked, you should not be applying for ssi anyway. You should be applying for regular disability. SSI is only for disabled people who do not have enough work credits. I believe after 12 years, you should have the credits you need. Make an appointment with social security. Then go down there and have them fill out your application for regular disability for you. They will also apply for public aid for you if you are eligible, so you will have help to live on until your disability case goes to court. Then hire a disability attorney. You will need one to help with your case. Don't worry about paying the attorney. The attorney does not get any money until he wins your case for you, and then his fee comes out of your back money. You don't pay any money up front. Please get all of this taken care of as soon as possible, so you don't have to keep suffering and worrying.
