Www.Soarhousing.Com  I have been homeless for 8 months an i am crippled.  I have applied 4 my ssi 5months ago and can't seem to get any help. I worked for a correctional facility for 12 years and had insurance all the time, now that i have no job, can't get a job and have no money, nobody seems to care.  I am a person! Maybe if i was a dog or a cat, someone would rescue me. Please help!

Amber,  When you applied for ssi, the person taking your application was supposed to send an application to the Department of Human Services for you, so you could get help while waiting to see if you would be approved for ssi.  Since you worked, you should not be applying for ssi anyway.  You should be applying for regular disability.  SSI is only for disabled people who do not have enough work credits.  I believe after 12 years, you should have the credits you need.  Make an appointment with social security.  Then go down there and have them fill out your application for regular disability for you.  They will also apply for public aid for you if you are eligible, so you will have help to live on until your disability case goes to court.  Then hire a disability attorney.  You will need one to help with your case.  Don't worry about paying the attorney.  The attorney does not get any money until he wins your case for you, and then his fee comes out of your back money.  You don't pay any money up front.  Please get all of this taken care of as soon as possible, so you don't have to keep suffering and worrying.

Smile, it's contagious!

For SS disability you must be unable to work for a year. Otherwise, you are entitled to collect state disability after 7 days. You have to go to Dept of Human Services in person.   If your disibility payments do not meet federal financial guidelines then you are eligible for SSI. (You can collect both.)  To my knowledge SS does not fill out forms for other agencies.  You need to procure & complete & submit forms yourself.  You don't need an attorney at first.  They have I believe it is 6 months to respond to your initial application.  Then if you are denied get attorney.

P.S.  When approved after 2 years SS disability you automatically qualify for medicare.  In the meantime apply for medicaid.  And food stamps.

A penny saved  is a penny earned

hi

you got good advice from both ladies.  i gave them a thumbs up.

i just wanted to add......i had applied and did not know about getting a lawyer after they turned me down the first time ( which later i found out that they do that to lots of people and they get a lawyer.)  i was in the hospital after i applied again and diagose with c.o.p.d..  after hospital i was so weak i had to stay with my daughter.,  for 3 weeks.  i went to the doctors again the next day cause i just could not breathe and i was laying down in the van and the lawyer came out and had me sign the papers he had drawn up for another application ( he sent the form to my daughter by e mail to fill out and she sent them back.)  this was a " no charge low income legal attorney".  you would probaly qualtify for.  i hope some one helps you.

i will be praying for you

god bless
