Minor Foundation repairs

I have seen at Lowes and Home Depot a pointing compound for foundations that is in a calking tube. It claims to be suitable for minor repairs of block foundations. Is this material good, or should a concrete mix you make yourself be best.

What I would do is, this: "Chip away at the problem areas with a masons chisel or hammer to form somewhat of a "V" notch," afterwhich I would fill with a specially formulated mixture of hydraulic cement.  This procedure should elimnate any minor leaks you have.  Check to see if it was a success during the next heavy rainfall.  If yes, I would definately go back to Lowes or, The Home Depot and purchase some ("DRYLOK"), a product designed especially for this specific reason.  It is a masonry waterproofer, guaranteed to stop water.  If you take your time and do it right you should be happier with the results than merely trying to plug it with some type caulk.  A dry basement is a happy basement!  Have fun...

If the crack is leaking, I would recommend an epoxy urethane injection kit. The kits have ports that are epoxied over the crack and then urethane is injected into the crack. I have used these a few time myself and they work great. Just search foundation crack repair and you find numerous companies.
