Moazite metals appears to be the general name for various ores that contain rare earth metals (REM). Certain rare earth metals are crucial in various hi-tech applications. I know of two junior mining companies that are currently defining newly discovered deposits and another that is pursuing a vertically-integrated business model with the capacity to mine, refine, and process rare earth metals. Information on what specific REM's are turning up in these resources is quite limited.
Avalone Ventures (T.AVL on the Toronto Exchange) is exploring their 100% owned Lake Zone target in the Northwest Territories -- with promising assays reported. Rare Earth Resources (V.RES on the Canadian Venture Exchange) is exploring the Bear Lodge deposit in Wyoming. This resource also contains gold and Newmont (NEM) is a joint-venture partner. Newmont will get the gold; RES will get the rare earth metals. A third party engineering firm has recently be hired to produce a new resource estimate.
The third firm is the Canadian-based Great Western Minerals Group (V.GWG on the Canadian Venture Exchange) is developing a resource at Hoidas Lake in northern Saskatchewan. GWG has a subsidiary, Great Western Technologies Inc., located in Troy, Michigan, that is intended to produce a variety of specialty alloys used in the battery, magnet, aerospace and nuclear industries. The company says these alloys include those containing copper, nickel, cobalt and the rare earth elements.
All three of these stocks have pulled back substantially with the recent general correction in commodities. Investors must do their own due diligence and be on the alert for possible company-specific bad news.
