Mental Illnesses: Bipolar and ?

I am bipolar but I had a friend that had some emotional/mental problem where his responses to questions and situations were totally inappropriate.  Laughing at things not funny, unconcerned about things potentially harmful or fatal to others, uncontrollable behavior with alcohol and drugs, saying things by rote "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to, I love you, etc." with little or no emotion.  I looked up sociopath but none of the other behaviors fit at all.  What was his problem?  Thanks

I am also Bipolar, and have functioned fairly normally over the past 13 years, but did have two episodes that occurred that were considered bad in my book (and my wife's)...anyway...the person you are describing in the question sounds more like my brother who was 2 years younger than me (he recently passed away) and did the exact things you describe...he was also "Bipolar" but it seemed like he had it worse than I do...he used drugs and alcohol...I never have...perhaps that is the difference, I don't know...he was given MANY more medications than me (as I only take one, Depakote)...perhaps it wasn't the right meds cocktail...it seems in my experience that some of us have different levels or respond differently to BP !???
