Marijuana prohibition is criminal, not the use of it.

How could ANYONE say that marijuana shouldn't be legalized, when alcohol is and it kills 100,000 people per year?! A guy doesn't smoke with his buds and go home and beat his wife, either, like an alcoholic does. It is the safest form of medicine out there. 20,000 people die annually from legal drugs, and ZERO from marijuana! Even Francis L. Young, an Administrative Law Judge of the US drug police DEA, said in 1988. "In strict medical terms marijuana is far safer than many foods we commonly consume. It is physically impossible to eat enough marijuana to induce death. Marijuana, in its natural form, is one of the safest therapeutically active substances known to man." He was part of the DEA!!! It aids people with:AIDS wasting syndrome, alzheimer’s disease, arthritis, asthma, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis ADD/ADHD, brain injury/ stroke, cancer, crohn’s/colitis, chronic pain, depression and mental illness, diabetes mellitus, dystonia, eating disorders, epilepsy, fibromyalgia, glaucoma, gastrointestinal disorders, gliomas, hypertension, hepatitis C, insomnia, multiple sclerosis, nail patella syndrom, nausea from chemotherapy, osteoporosis, phantom limb pain, migranes and headaches, spinal cord injury, stroke, sleep apnea, tourette’s syndrome, and tumors.  THC, the main component in cannabis, has been proven to cure cancers and reduce tumors in a Harvard Study, and many others since the '70s. If marijuana did not have all the baggage that power-hungry people put on it, and it was just discovered, it would be hailed as a wonder drug.

Marijuana used to be our nation's #1 cash crop because it is the strongest natural fiber in the world, can make THOUSANDS of products, grows naturally all over the U.S., can be harvested more than once, and renews the soil for the next crop. The first marijuana laws were enacted in Jamestown, and ordered farmers to grow it. Yet, we are the only industrial country in the world that does not grow cannabis for industrial use. Over 90% of cannabis that is confiscated by the DEA is only hemp, which one cannot get high off of. Washington, Jefferson, and Franklin all cultivated and smoked marijuana. The first copy of the Declaration of Independence was written on hemp paper.

It's been proven not to be a gateway drug, cause long term damage, or cause crime. It is not physically addictive, unlike alcohol and cigarettes which are the gateway drugs. It is the 3rd most popular drug, behind alcohol and cigarettes. I'd rather see people healthy and living by choosing the 3rd option. It is even safe to use by pregnant mothers, who noted that their children excelled at an advanced pace!

Our country arrests more people and spends more money because of marijuana prohibition than ANY OTHER VIOLENT CRIME PUT TOGETHER. No wonder our country makes up for almost 25% of the world's prisoners, above all other countries, even though we make up only 5% of its population. The prohibition of marijuana ruins lives. Think of this scenario: A mother in Pa smokes a joint because of her nausea from her recent chemotherapy. The police raid her house and arrest her. Now, her kids are taken from her, she is publicly humiliated, and she has a permanent black mark on her criminal record that keeps her from getting a decent job. She could even have her car and house taken away, all for just one innocent, helpful herb wrapped in paper.

There is no provable evidence that marijuana is harmful, so wouldn't marijuana's prohibition be criminal? Believe it or not, but this fight could mean the difference between life and death. Make the right choice, and learn more at NORML.org, or take time out of the end of a busy day and watch this video:

I disagree; while there ate surely good uses( hemp for rope and fiber uses, medicinal as for nausea )  the main problem i've seen is that the use has become an activity, which dulls the senses, keeps people from being alert and aware of the life and responsibilities they should be experiencing, not trying to hide from...like X-box gaming, it is a habit that takes over healthier activities and the accomplishments that could be the result of motivated, aware, clear thinking behavior. I wouldn't want someone stoned doing surgery on me..".like what the heck- I made a mistake! Oh well, whatever, don't worry about it...be happy!" It makes people less concerned about responsibilities...it is an escape drug....

But you okay with the same guy being drunk or possibly "coked" out his mind.

Permalink, your logic is flawed, you can't simply make something up and ignore facts, drunks fail sobriety test, not smokers, why, because unlike the drunk the smoker can stay home and relax in peace.  Whereas the drunk not only drives to the bar, drinks way more than he/she should,(fact you can die from ingesting too much alcohol....one would have to literally eat 2 tons of marijuana, to get become ill, that is 4,000 pounds...you couldn't eat that in a life time.

The facts of the matter are the government makes money on the supposed "War on Drugs" on both sides, mind you.  The government would make more money by taxing marijuana for personal use, and cracking down and concentrating on the real problems, like closed minded individuals like youself trying to tell me,  a fellow American how to live my life....read the Declaration of Independence, "....life, freedom and the pursuit of happiness."  I suggest you find your own happiness and leave me and the rest of us individuals alone.  Thank you very Much.

Farmgal, another thing...how many teenagers die every year from alcohol, meth, X, mom and dad's prescriptions....Now how many teenagers to you hear about dying each year to Marijuana....

So now you argurment is marijuana led them to the alcohol and harsher drugs...possible not at all true....Most teenagers who smoke weed, have already done two other things...According to U.S. and World Report Aug 1992,...."of the percentage of teenagers who admit they smoke or have smoked marijuana, 8 of 10 had smoked cigarettes or drank, at least once before trying marijuana..."

The argument that Marijuana is the gateway drug is completely flawed.  The U.S. Beverage Industry spends over 40 billion/yr in advertising...how much air time does marijuana get.   Go smoke a bong and call me in the morning.

I greatly disagree with you. Marijuana has not just become an activity. Most people use it for medical purposes, like I use it for my back pain, insomnia, depression, and asthma. Either way, it is sooo much better than alcohol. People ONLY drink alcohol as an activity. So would you rather have a drunk doing surgery on you? If marijuana was legal, it would be treated like alcohol, so no being high at work. People can think logically when they are high, and they can function just as well as anyone. Plus, out of everyone employed full-time, 51.3% have smoked marijuana(majority!), and over 36% of that percentage are chronic smokers who smoke more than 100 times per year. It doesn't seem like they don't care about their responsibilities. Like alcohol, it isn't for everyone, but that shouldn't make responsible users suffer. Marijuana doesn't make people stupid. Stupid people who smoke marijuana do stupid things, and that gives the rest of us a bad reputation. I smoked every day last semester, and I had no problem getting on Dean's List. Did the same my senior year, and I was valedictorian. You can't blame a non-addictive inanimate object for making people lazy. The people made the choice to be lazy before hitting that joint.

it is a fact that chewing  gum leads to drunk driving, heroin addiction, and all other crimes combined.  everyone that has broken the law in any way has at least once chewed gum.

THANK YOU! All of my facts are 100% true, check it out on norml.org or just google em. I mean, seriously? If you would rather your kids be one of the 100,000 to die from alcohol, or 400,000 to die from tobacco instead of living a happy life smoking an innocent herb, be my guest. Have fun burying your children. Even caffeine kills more people(2,000) than marijuana!

Plus, I've driven high. I recommend not doing that, but I have NO problem whatsoever driving high. And I live in Pa, so I've come close to hitting quite a few deer with my old '89 tempo with foggy lights, and I've still never been in an accident. Most people who drive high actually drive slower because they're paranoid! Now a drunk driver? Pretty good chance that they're gona hit SOMETHING.

I'm sorry, but after over 3,000 years of it being consumed, no one has found ANYTHING to properly condem marijuana. So like allen said, relax and hit one up, because it's marijuana that helped this nation even be here.
