Ideally you should always store your wine horizontally, in a dark place, at a temperature between 55-60 degrees F. Stored properly, your cork will last for years, even centuries! However, if you must store it vertically for practical or decorative reasons, your cork will probably still last at least a year or two before your wine starts to go bad. Try to keep it out of direct light.
