Living in a kip thats falling apart

i live in a rented house. i have told my landlord that there was cracks appearing along the stairs,ceilings,walls,ets. he said oh that only settling cracks,i would see through it if it was a new build,but it aint,i have now noticed more cracks and some of the ones are getting bigger by the day,he wont do anything, so what can i do.am afraid incase anything falls like the stairs which has big cracks along the side,even the floor in my bathroom seems to be sinking down i might end up in my kitchen some day in the bath.as iv got a 10yr old girl an another on the way.theres cracks in nearly every wall and ceiling.that was never there before.can i refuse to pay rent until he gets it looked.i have asked him for not much in this house as iv done everything myself,with his permission.i have asked now bout these cracks and he has turned in2 a arragent pig by being cheekie and everything.he said im taking him for a ride as he thinks the house is costing him too much now.but how can it.when the boiler packed in i got it fixed,he has never had to do anything 2the house in over 3 1/2 yrs.

Basement Systems

Check your local government or town official website, for information on Tenant/Landlord laws, housing codes and the contact information for the local housing code enforcement agency. Contact them and they will tell you what you can and can't do.

If you can't find it over the Internet, go to city hall. If I were you I'd want to have a city housing inspector evaluate the situation, just to be on the safe side.

That's dangerous specially you're living with your 10 years old daughter, cracks getting larger as days pass are not safe better look for new apartment.
