I heard about the little Indian girl Lakshmi, who was born with 4 arms and 4 legs.
I understand that there was a twin that didn't survive, but I don't get how this little girl got all those extra organs.
I hope she survives the surgery...
Doctors say she's going to be fine, but the 72 hours after the surgery are critical, so I guess we're still wishing her best of luck. Actually we can do that after she's fine too...
And yes, apparently the pregnancy started with two babies, but some of the organs of the others didn't make it throughout the pregnancy.
From what I gather the organs of the twin that didn't survive, somehow latched on to the healthy twin and basically started growing with her. This is extremely rare, for usually when one twin dies it's organs simply stop growing and die with it. According to the articles in the press it seems like she will be OK but there is a question about later problems that may arise.
