As for your question: According to the Jewish law, as it was also at that time, the Dead are not pure, so a "Cohen" or "Levi" is not allowed to touch or be in the same room with the Dead. Jesus, according to the Christian belief, was from the House of David, the tribe of Judah, so he had no problem with that... As far as I know, the people of Bethany at the time were also no Levites, so that's not a problem as well. I don't know if a corpse of somebody who later resurrects is considered pure or impure.
