Why do Jews do this to themselves?

I read an article on a very conservative American web site http://www.theconservativegentleman.com/?p=1507 in which the author asks this question: "How can a majority of American Jews support a man (Obama) who is so decidedly anti-Jewish, manifested in his policies toward Israel?" To which I might add, how do Jewish members of Obama's administration reconcile their loyalty to him when being so is intrinsically disloyal to Israel? The Conservative Gentleman takes American Jews to task over their unhealthy relationship with liberals and Democrats who have become enemies of the Jewish state. I agree, and I wonder, how long will it take before American Jews realize just who their friends really are? Are we not careening toward a day when the echoes of "Never again!" are just that, echoes? It was indifference to vital Jewish interests that brought about the Holocaust, and then it was fear which froze that indifference in place. Make no mistake. I am a Roman Catholic bewildered by the anti-Jewish sentiment within the American Jewish community. Someone explain to me why Jews do this to themselves.

It's not the mountain we conquer... but ourselves

Wow, I totally agree with you, and it all really upsets me. Look, I am an American Jew and I was torn for a long time, whether to do what seemed best for America as a whole (vote for Obama) or to do what seemed to be best for Israel and the Jews (to not vote for Obama). In the end, I thought that Obama would be different. I am absolutely sick of him and can't believe that myself and so many other Jews were so foolish to go along with his lies. For me it was hard to know how he would really be regarding Israel, and I only learned about his friendships and relationships with these anti-Semitic people after it was too late. If I could do it again, I would vote for anyone but Obama. Actually, I was so torn right before the elections that I didn't vote at all. Anyway, I think that the biggest problem with us Jews is that we can never stand as one or know what's good for us.

I read your comment with great sorrow, and, I must admit, I agree with every word of it. I think this type of behaviour is a result of thousands of years of persecution, where Jews tried to find a way to survive, hoping the gentiles would accept them if they will be "more Catholic than the Pope...". Another reason is the Jewish way of always trying to state the opposite opinion, a way that has brought the Jews to unbelievable achievments in science & arts. In politics it makes them severe damage.

You are right. This way never worked. Still I must regretfully admit that I assume those Jews will always exist.
