Jack & jill bathroom door locks

Eric,

I have a 1930's Art Deco bungalow with a Jack & Jill bathroom between two bedrooms. The doors have original glass knobs and skeleton key hardware, and I want to keep that intact. I am having a VERY HARD time finding a way to lock the doors from both sides (from inside bathroom as well as from each bedroom) without having to go to unsightly hook & eyes that you would use on a gate. I have searched every hardware store, locksmith and even online. Local locksmiths (ALL OF THEM) only suggest is to change out the doorknob/hardware to privacy locking (NEW) ones. I want to keep the art deco look intact, but I also don't have a million dollars....HELP!!
