Ignorance of the law is no excuse

I understand Sen. Carper (Sp?), Delaware, says he's not going to read the bill he just "wrote".  This reminds me of John Conyers comment about thousand page bills and needing lawyers to interpret.  I are a dumb engineer and geologist but, as I understand my grade school civics, ignorance of the law is no excuse.  If the writers don't read and understand the bill how are us serfs to cope?G67P2H

Laws are, well, very legalistic and are not written for the ordinary layperson to easily understand.  Unless the issue is relatively mundane, we hope that the bill is publicized in writing we can understand.  The current health-care legislation is getting this treatment.  BTW, a bill on its own is virtually impossible to understand by a layperson because it usually incorporates by reference other law.

Cool Equal justice for All

The law works but the system needs changed, We all abide by the law but sometime it failes us. The same with the goverment. God bless the USA, Brign our troops HOME safely, To the men who did not get the credit they deserve, MAY GOD WATCH OVER OUR SERVICE MEN.

In RE: your question 99% are lawyers that proof read any and all bills before before they are on the Senate or Congress side or prior to reading the bill as it is supposed to be letter perfect before it is presented to the full Senate or Congress floor. As we all know how many days or weeks does it take to read over 1100 pages so as to be sure every i is dotted and every t is crossed as most of the bills are read by a Paralegal or a Legal Assistant. As we all know that most Senators and Congressmen DO NOT READ THE BILL BEFORE IT GOES to the floor of the Senate or Congress as there are to uch to do. As we both know common sence tells us they only have a outline or what is told to them about this bill prior to but they are exempt from reading the whole bill before it is presented. Yes ignorance of the law is no excuse for you and i as we are supposed to be lawyers before we read or sign any document. And no 99.9% of us dont have a degree in law but dont go to court and say i dont know the law as any judge will tell you ignorance of the law is no excuse. As any judge or attorney will say to you or me well you should know the law. HA HA

I actually got two answers.  The first was useless.  The second hinted that laws are necessarily vague, at best, or capricious at worst.  If citizens cannot understand law, government is in a position to tyrannize since I may actually be violating some serious law at this moment.  How does a citizen control government as opposed to government controlling a citizen?
