Identify the birds tearing up my flowers in hanging baskets

I recently planted two hanging baskets full of colorful petunias.  Now I have two small brown and red birds that are picking the flowers to death.  They are constantly in the baskets (which are lined with the brown coconut husk stuff), just tearing up the blooms.  I was wondering what kind of birds they may be, and why they are doing that.  Any suggestios would be appreciated.  I finally brought the baskets in the house.  Before there aren't any blooms left at all.  I live in East Alabama, if that helps.  Thank You.

Today is the first day of the rest of my life.

It may be the House Finch. They are brown with a reddish head and chest. They eat, among other things, buds and flower parts in the spring. They are also known to build their nests in hanging flower baskets. They are small, about the size of a sparrow. Here's apicture of one. Hope this helps.

Thanks Jeanne!  That looks like the little culprit.  I love birds, and almost all animals, but these little boogers were driving me insane.  Any thoughts on how to keep my baskets outside, without them tearing them apart?
