House Raise: Increasing Basement Height.

I plan to raise my 22' X 40' ranch by 2 feet, and thus accomodating a full 8' finished basement. I will contract a structural mover to do the raise, and may to do the addition myself. From what I gather, the options are to: 1. Add poured concrete to the foundation; 2, Add concrete block to the foundation; 3. Add cripple walls onto the foundation. Any pros and cons with these options. Also, if I add the cripple walls, what lumber should I use, and should the walls be braced (my property is in NYC, NY). Thanks in advance.

I am considering doing the EXACT same thing with my very similar sized ranch on Long Island. I would stay away from the cripple walls all together. I would avoid the poured concrete method also. The 2 feet you want, equates to exactly three layers of cinder block. Each block is 7.5" tall plus 1/2" mortar. Laying brick is much more manageable than pouring concrete. Do you have a ballpark $ for the structural mover to do the lifting? I am brainstorming on how to do the lift myself and it's not looking good.
