You can try and research the history of your home at your local library. But finding the history sometimes doesn't help when trying to deal with spirits. They could be spirits that don't want to leave 'their' home. Sometimes it can be more then that, with a negative spirit (someone that was negative in life). The negative has been known to hold other innocent spirits hostage and not allow them to move on. The negative spirits use fear as a 'food'. If they can scare you then you are releasing negative energies and that is what they need to gain strength. Other negative emotions, anger, hostility, defiance, jealousy, rage, etc. feed them. The negative spirits can cause problems within the family to bring on arguments. So while the living are fighting among themselves, the dead are being fed a lot of energy! If the spirit finds your weaknesses, say fear, it will go to great lengths to scare you.
