I agree with the 3rd reply. Your Horse is Playing with you! Watch any Horse when a small child approaches. The first thing they do is sniff then tussle the kids' hair with their big upper lip, then nudge the kids head (usually gently...for a full grown Horse) from side to side then it's back to tussling the kids hair again....& so on as long as the kid stands there,. The owners of the Stable where I board have put a 4 ft. dangling chain in a stall because the Horse that occupies it loves to grab it lightly in his teeth & run the chain between his upper & lowers in a downward swoop. When Carter reaches the end of the chain he grabs it again at the top & starts all over again. One last thing: Your Horse may like the smell of your hat too thinking it will taste good. When he finds it doesn't, he drops it. My question to you is this: If you know he's gonna do this to you, why do you stand in the mud? LOL! Seems to me, that dry land is in order , here.
