Herpes info

I was recently screened for STD's; I received a HSV2 IgG, Type Spec test; result was 0.96 index; which my understanding is equivocal (0.91 - 1.09). However, my health care provider stated to me that I was positive. I plan on getting retested in a month. I also understand that equivocal could mean early infection; but what % is that; is there a great possibility that I could be negative, since there is a margin of error of -10 / +10. Also, would it be wise to start suppressive treatment, such as Valtrex; I have no symptoms of herpes; never have. I'm terribly confused and upset.

You should ask your health care provider to elaborate on the test results and why he feels you may be positive. Laboratories have different values and ranges for test results so this question cannot be answered accurately. Your best option is to ask your doctor to explain it to you so you have a better understanding. There are also STD clinics who have physicians who specialize in these diseases and understand what the results mean. It might also be worthwhile to call them and possibly they can help you understand your results and what they mean.
