Hardwood floors

How do you minimize scratchs on hardwood floors (that cannot be sanded)?  I have beautiful hardwood floors, but the way they were installed/designed, there are protruding "rivets" .. part of the design.  We've been told they cannot be sanded becuase of these.  I know we can never get the floors perfect, but improving them would be nice

Trying applying a protective wax coating on it. I am not an expert but my home has beautiful woodfloors and that's what we do once in a while to get it looking good. Check with homedepot

I refinish wood floors, and have come across a floor like this. I used a nail punch and drove the "rivets" into the wood below the surface. As long as they are below the surface line, your sander will not catch on them and you can sand your floor. It is tedious and time consuming, but can be done. Then just apply a new finish.
