HELP - need a method to remove cigarette odor from upholstered recliner that REALLY WORKS!

How do I remove cigarette smoke smell from an upholstered recliner?  I bought it as a "bargain" at a yard sale, and it is really nice except for the SMELL.  I have tried baking soda, shampooing repeatedly, vinegar - the only thing that halfway helped - Febreze, pet urine smell remover, even my husband's after shave!  Is it time to just donate the $%#@ thing and consider it a lesson learned, or does anyone have an inexpensive solution that truly will work?  The recliner cost $30, so it isn't a great loss if it won't work, but still I like it and it would be nice to be able to use it without my living room smelling like an ash tray!!! Thanks in advance!

This might not be the cheapest way, but there's a product called Sportzyme from Norwex that gets the stink out of hockey/football gear. It's an enzyme product that literally eats up all the organic odors, so it's free from all the nasty chemicals and perfumes most of the other air fresheners have in them.

I use it for stinky shoes and the kitty litter box. Totally works.

It costs $14.99, so that's half the price of the chair! But if you've got kids in sports with stinky shoes etc, it might be worth a try.

Good luck!

I agree with this person. You can also use a steam cleaner and steam clean the chair. Also you can get an enzyme spray cleaner from a pet store. It is used to eliminate the urine smell from an area where a pet has gone so they don't keep going in that area thinking it's there new "bathroom".

Oooh, now I get it..

Not 100% sure this will work but newspapers absorb odors on other stuff so I thought I should mention this. You could put the chair inside of a mattress bag(available where moving supplies are sold) and layer it with newspaper before sealing the bag tight. It should sit for at least a week before opening to check if the smells gone.
