Are there any free or cheap music composing softwares out there? I'm into writing songs, but I need a way of testing them out, since all I've got is a keyboard (non-MIDI).

The best free one I can suggest is an open source program called MuseScore. There's also another one called LilyPond, if you'd like to try both. But if you have an extra hundred some-odd dollars then nothing beats Sidelius or Finale for music composition. Most solid music composition software on the market is expensive. So if your looking to save money you can't beat the open source options.
I use Cakewalk Pro, though it's not free. I do MIDI music and it's the best music software I know.
You could likely find an older version of Cakewalk on Ebay or some such for not so much money.
