tetra-fish.comI have had a brown algie in my aquarium for a while and have not been able to get rid of it. I can can clean my tank real good and in a couple of weeks it starts to come back. Is there any thing that I could get rid of this algie with ? Thanks!Ruth Giddens

tetras do not eat brown algae. while they do nibble on green filimitus algae for tiny invertabrates. in newer tanks brown algae is a normal first photoplankton later turning to green as the tank matures. all algaes grow because of nutriants in the water, algae spores (they can come from any where) and light. if you want no algae reduce it's food (feed your fish much less), reduce the light and preform regular 15% weekly water changes. of course you could get a plecostomus (they eat algae and are harmless to your tetras. I recommend a candy stripe plec. as it's a dwarf one at only 2-3 inches. avoid snails at all costs, they bred like mad! hope this helps
