My mother was married to my step-father for over 20 years. They have been divorced for 17 years. She has never re-married. She is 67 and retired last year. She only draws $300.00 a month. Her ex-husband recently retired but is 10 years younger than her so he won't apply for SS Benefits for several more years. He held a high paying job all those years, she worked small part time jobs. Does she have to wait until he starts receiving SS Benefits in order for her to apply for an increase for herself?
