The table I need to refinish is my Grandmother's Duncan-Phyfe table, including 6 lyre-back chairs. It was purchased in the late 1930's or early 1940's and aside of years of waxing, it has its original finish. Over the years it has gotten some small scratches and a couple of spots where something hot was placed on the table. Your instructions indicate putting a c"lear coat of polymer" on the table as a finish, giving it "some shine". The table has a high gloss finish on it now that I would like very much to maintain. How would I achieve that? Thank you in advance for your help. Is this something you would recommend an amateur tackle or would you recommend that I hire a professional to do this?
