Can you vent a second storey dryer though the roof?

I would think the junk that got through the vent would fall back down and eventually clog the tube. Not to mention the mess on the roof itself.

Maybe I am mistaken?

Their is a kit you can pick up at any home improvment store.  It will vent out the soffit.  Very easy to install. It consist of the same tube the wall vent has It comes in several pieces. It connecte to the dryer and lays in the soffit area. Pick up some zip ties to attach the tube to the raftters.

Dorothy, You really don't want to dunp the dryer vent out on the roof.  There is too much lint that is discharged.  It will get on the shingles and will look bad.  You also need a cap on the vent which operate horozantelly.  Birds will be able to get into it on the roof and may nest there.  If you have a soffit that would be the best place for the vent.  Getting access to it will be the problem.  You shouldn't just run it there and not take it out to the open.  It may sound like a lot of work, but the best choice is go through the wall or out a window.  It will be a shorter run and you will get a better exhaust.  there will also be less danger of a clog and fire.

My builder vented the dryer to the roof and all the answers above were right on the lint caught on the shingles and looked bad the straight line winds allowed rain into the vent pipe and once it started clumping well you can imagine right so I went to my favorite home Improvement store bought some hard flex 4" Pipe re ran the vent to the soffit forget the zip ties it lays down with no problem.

Labeled a "Home repair Specialist" by a national leading home repair franchise!

It is possible, & the home centers sell a special roof vent just for this apllication. Be ready to vacuum the line, however, twice a year to be safe;yearly at a minimum. If it's possible to get one to vent outside the wall(closer is most preferable) Ive seen alot of damaged cause from these not being cleaned, fires from being clogged & near gas water heaters, etc.. Aside all of this... yes it can be vented out the roof... Seek all options b-4 using this option though..
