Divorce? or not to divorce: What is the real social security trick............

My husband of 18 years, and I are looking down the road to retirement and pondering the "Social Security dance". A question always comes to mind, If we got a divorce, would OUR INCOMES from SS be more? When visiting my mother in Florida, she said a lot of husband and wives get divorced so they can get both earners benefits. I have always disliked that rule! I have work very hard too, 35 years as a nurse, and have paid IN my share. When we got married "they" didn't decrease MY deduction....."What's Up With That???
