Developing a stutter

hi new at this so i hope im doing this right... im 18 female and am worried because iv recently started to develop a stutter, apparently when i was alot younger i had a slight one yet after years of speech and drama lessons i really have no recollection of this.iv also noticed a slight lisp coming on and am wondering if all this is somhow self induced.for a while now i have been in a constant restless state,i feel shaky and hyped up or nervous all the time,i dont sleep properly anymore, only getting to sleep at 3 or 4 in the morning so im always tired,i also have an unrelenting headache and irritable bowels, and muscle aches because im holding myself so tightly.im wondering whether im just being a hypochondriac teenager as were all a bit stressed out sometimes or should i take this more seriously and go see someone?maybe i should add that in june i finshed my final exams in secondary or high school which determined whether i got into university or not,and have been feeling this way since about 4 months before these exams yet saw this as normal nervous behaviour and didnt think i would still have it now in august especially seeing as the results were very successful.any help would be really appreciated, thanks

God is love Smile

I'm sorry to know this. I know it's very unpleasant when you find some things happening to you and you don't know the reason. So I believe you should get help with that.

And congratulations for the good results Wink.

Helping people understand speaking anxiety and stuttering

Hi, I can see that you asked this question about 6 months ago so hopefully the situation has turned around and you are back on track with life. You have to realise that you have a propensity to stutter. It may be in your family or something however your parents have done you a great service in intervening when you were younger. You went through one of the most stressful times in your life doing you finals school exams. If you have a propensity ot stutter then it will be brought on when your stress and anxiety levels are high.  I have just written an article about this at my blog at http://www.stutteringjack.com. The consequences of failure in this "non-speech related area" has raised your anxiety level to the point where it has impacted on your speech. In any event, dont catastrophise what happened, just learn something about yourself from it. All that is now in the past but use it as a learning experience. What you have learned is that when you stress and anxiety levels get high there is likely to be an impact on various functions in your body including your speech fluency. Be aware of what is happening in your life and if you see thoughts about situations ahead of you beginning to increase your anxiety levels begin to consciuosly do what you can to bring your anxiety level down. I will talk about this in my next blog but there are many ways to reduce anxiety but in simple terms just try to slow everything down in your life and try to see the things that are concerning you in a differnt light. In summary, like everyone, stress and anxiety have a major impact on you so recognise that fact and begin to find answers that are going to work for you in YOUR life. "Know Thy Self". All the best, Stuttering Jack.
