The best I can remeber in the dialog or whatever it's called it is listing things re mail, such as link, opening mail, etc. This is all so aggravating. I've tried all I know which I admit isn't much. How to Improve Computer Performance with Defragmentation.

Defragmentation may be the most important computer housekeeping operation. Fragmentation occurs when there is not enough contiguous space to store a complete file as a unit. Parts of the file are put in gaps between other files. When the file is deleted the gaps remain and contribute to inefficient use of disk. Defragmentation reduces fragmentation by physically organizing disk contents to store the pieces of each file close together and contiguously.
Defragmentation can take over two hours. However, as shown in the following steps, Windows will only recommend running Defrag when there are significant disk storage results. Defrag benefits should be checked every month.

1FINDING SYSTEM TOOLS
From the Desktop click on "Programs" and go to "Accessories". Open "Accessories" and select "System Tools"

  • Step 2 LOCATE DISK DEFRAGMENTER
    LOCATE DISK DEFRAGMENTER
In "System Tools" select and open "Disk Defragmenter"

  • Step 3 SELECT DATA VOLUME
    SELECT DATA VOLUME
On the "Disk Defragmenter" screen select the disk to be defragmented. Normally this will be the "C" drive.

  • Step 4 IS DEFRAG NECESSARY?
    IS DEFRAG NECESSARY?
The "Disk Defragmenter' screen will graphically show data stored on the selected drive and recommend to "defragment" or "close" the selected volume. It is also possible to select "View Report" but this option is normally of limited value.

  • Step 5 DEFRAG RESULTS
    DEFRAG RESULTS
Selecting "Defragment" will start the process. The system will show progress but the defragment process can take over one hour. It is possible to have other windows open while "Defragment" is running but overall performance will like degrade. Defragmentation consumes a lot of computer resource.

Defrag is the last step in computer "housekeeping". The total housekeeping(in sequence) is Empty Recycle Bin, Delete Cookies, Disk Cleanup, Defragm
