Civil Court proceedings in Baldwin Co Alabaa

Our renters moved out without notice owing four months rent. They signed a one (1) yr lease which will be up in February, 2010. We want to file a claim to recover our monetary loss (no more than $10,000 dollars). Do we file in Small Claims Court or Civil Court. Our problem is that we will be Orange Beach, Alabama, only till October 30, 2009. We will be back in Alabama In January, 2010 for five months. If we file now in October, 2009 do you think we will get a court date by the end of October, or ask for a later date or wait until January, 2010 to file our claim? We live in Parma Hts, Ohio which takes us two days to get here.
