Chicken Enchiladas

I am making a new recipe for chicken enchiladas where it is calling for 1/4 cup of New Mexican Chile Powder. Unfortunately I only have the regular chili powder. Does anyone know by chance how much of the regular chili powder I should use?

I bet the New Mexican Chili Powder has some more cheyenne pepper or some hot pepper in it that regular chili pepper don't have. If you have eaten this receipe before with regular chili powder, I would just add and then taste until you get the taste you remember or want. Sometime I have made dishes where they call for more jalapenos than I would normally put but when I tasted it, it did need the extra kick and then I have got lazy and just poured the japapeno juice in there untill I got the taste I wanted. Better than getting the peppers on my hands again, plus I got the same results. Just try that's the best you can do,and I bet it will be delicious.

Dear A.Brown, Thank you for your suggestions! I made the enchiladas a couple of nights ago and put 1/2 of the required amount and used regular chili powder. It came out okay but was a little too spicy for me. It was Emeril Lagasse's recipe from the net. I bet the New Mexican Chile Powder is much milder and probably would of given the sauce a better taste. It was my first attempt making it from scratch so I may have to order the spice from the internet. I have ordered specific spices from the internet before because I hadn't found them in our supermarkets. Thank you again for answering me!  Lois
