Bicycle battery replacement 4-12volt or 2-24volt

I have a 48volt pheonix electric motor for my bike.It takes 4- 12 volt batteries to run it.the batteries discharge really fast.I am looking for lightweight high efficiency batteries to replace them,any suggestions?
