Surrealism is probably my least favorite type of art, I usually find the metaphors it uses uninteresting and a lot of it is too technical and not personal enough to move me, so maybe I'm not the right person to answer this. I'm as impressed by his work as I am with Dali or magritte - which is, not that much, I mean, it's nice and I understand the contribution to art in general, but not something I would hang in my house or be moved to see in a museum.
I do like the more personal surrealists like Max Ernts and De Chirico - if you like Surreal art, maybe give them a shot as well.
