Tell it like it is.

A baud is a number, letter or symbol in digital format.  A baud rate is hos many of these number, letters or symbols is transmitted to a printer or how many of these a printer  can print in a second.  The binary codes in baud are very similar to ACSII, which is the standard today, either 7 or 8 bit codes.  Bauds were used in military and other operations using teletype.  Normally the number of bits in a baud is 5.  Eaach high (1) or low (0) is a bit.  Bauds can be sent to a printer either in serial or parallel format.  It is possible for todays computers to talk to the old baud teletypes and printers, but it takes some very comples programming to deal with 5 bit baud.
