4.9 motor thump

I read about the thump in my 1987 4.9 caddy motor .It is the no.1 main bearing.Said it could be fixed with a factory purple colored main bearing.Anybody heard about this,and what it would cost to replace the bearing.My 87 has 108000 miles on it.Thanks.

Its not only the main bearing needing replacement but it is also the crankshaft condition. Normally when a bearing starts "knocking", it also involves the crankshaft wearing to a point that it has to be repaired. The only way is to remove the motor and disassemble it to the point where an evaluation can be made as to the condition of the crankshaft. These repairs are very expensive.
